422 FIRST AID POLICY

Revised: May 14, 2008 The board adopts the following guidelines for its employees when they find it necessary to administer first aid. 1. The employee is protected under the Good Samaritan Law, MS. 604A..01, when acting in good faith and in the exercise of reasonable care while administering first aid. 2. In serious cases, where treatment is extremely urgent, the physician and parent will be called immediately by the principal's office. If necessary, an ambulance will be requested for transportation. Examples of serious cases include the following: unconsciousness, prolonged vomiting, convulsions, severe abdominal pain, severe hemorrhages, fractures, and severe head and back injuries. Accidents of this severity will be reported in accordance with Policy 421: Accident Reports. 3. The responsibility for follow-up care after first aid has been given resides with the principal's office. They will contact parents and/or physician. Parents or their designated representative will be expected to pick up the child shortly after they are contacted if it is necessary for the child to leave school. |
