From the Desk of the Superintendent (article from the Mustang Express - August 2017 edition)
I’m Steve Thomas and I’m the new Superintendent for South Koochiching-Rainy River School District. I’m looking forward to an especially exciting school year with a new Northome Principal - Tony Kerr - and a new, very positive atmosphere at the school. We can’t wait for school to begin. Speaking of which, the first day of school is Tuesday, September 5, the day after Labor Day
We’ve had another great summer school program, with a bit more still occurring in August. Let us know if you would like to have your youngster involved. We will continue with summer school August 7 and 8, and August 14 and 15. Then, we will have a few weeks before school begins.
I have great plans for the District this year. I’m excited to get started on things. I’ve met with the School Board several times now and have discussed many items I want to concentrate on. We will be improving the curriculum, getting students more inspired in their classes and, in the process, we will improve how well students do on their State-wide MCA tests. We will begin the year with a positive atmosphere and the year will get better and better as the months go by.
We need your help with many things, one in particular... It is very important to have your youngsters here every day and on time. Their daily attendance helps increase their eagerness to learn and their enthusiasm for school. We appreciate your support.
We will have a “booth” at the Fair again this year. Don’t forget, the Fair is Friday-Sunday, August 11-13. Staff will be at the booth when available and Mr. Kerr and I will be there, as well. Stop by the booth when you are visiting the Fair and say hello. I’m looking forward to meeting many of you there.
As always, feel free to stop in at the school with any thoughts you have or just to say hi. Or call me anytime about anything. I look forward to it. See you soon.
